Ramakrishna Movement
The Ramakrishna Mission is a unique religio-philanthropic organization established by Swami Vivekananda in 1897 in the hallowed name of his guru Sri Ramakrishna Deva. Echoing the idea of his guru he said, “After so much austerity, I have understood this as the real truth: God is present in every JIVA; there is no other God besides that.” Then the great Swami Vivekananda declared the unique path of spiritual progress: “He who serves JIVA, (man) serves God (Shiva) indeed” (Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Vol. 7, p. 247)
Attracted by the clarion call of Swami Vivekananda thousands of men and women offered their lives to this great ideal, and within only hundred years, without the help of any monarch or merchant, Ramakrishna Mission Ashramas were established all over the world.
The story of the Ramakrishna Mission is indeed a story of courage, dedication, love, selfless-service and progress —success in material world for the general people and in the spiritual world for the sannyasis.
